Age Of Capricorn

metalheadchris As a Capricorn, I was hesitant to write a review about this album for two reasons; one: it felt illogical to sound biased. Two: I overthink shit and worry if someone is gonna like what I have to say. So fuck em', after being given an empowering dose of black metal from Poland... I feel invigorated with every spin. Sounds crazy but this album speaks volumes to me and if your born between December and January it will for you too. 10/10 Favorite track: Age Of Capricorn.

Ippocalyptica Arkona knock it out of the park with this mildly-symphonic and highly-melodic black metal extravaganza. Age of Capricorn pays homage to the second-wave black metal greats with epic yet tasteful orchestral work, while incorporating pristine modern production values and more aggressive tremolo riffing and blastbeat-heavy drumming. Tempos are frequently blistering but not one note feels rushed or out of place, and the second and third songs are among 2019’s very best. I am in love with this work. Favorite track: Alone Among Wolves.

about

ARKONA, one of the first and best Polish Black Metal bands, follow up 2016’s Debemur Morti debut ‘Lunaris’ with the frighteningly-focused ‘Age Of Capricorn’, a zip-wire blast of mesmerising intensity.

Formed in 1993, the band record-on-record continually ascend to the next level and this emphatic 7th album builds a new world from their distinctive sonic elements: nihilistic rage, strident power, masterfully integrated filmic orchestration and vicious slabs of whiteout riffing where emotive melodies are beaten into corruption.

Recorded, mixed and mastered at Impressive Art Studio, ‘Age Of Capricorn’ is blessed with a crisp production that foregrounds a jackhammer relentlessness of near-industrial proportions, leaving the listener gasping for air as they are bludgeoned into inverted cathedrals of sound.

ARKONA are the place where the lightless spirits of second and third wave Black Metal assume modern form in an all too relatable maelstrom of degradation and disquiet, alienation and anger, hypnosis and horror.

about

ARKONA Poland

Not to be confused with the Russian folk-metal act of the same name, Poland’s ARKONA has been producing crushing, pagan black metal hymns since their inception in 1993. Devoid of excess gimmicks that often plague the genre, ARKONA present a straightforward yet compelling sound. Tremolo harmonies, relentless snare blasts and vitriolic snarls flow into crescendos of melodic splendor. ... more
